Women don’t want a man who is TOO clever or handsome

I have a mini-confession to make: I wrote the Tao of Dating books specifically for really smart people. The writing of the books was precipitated by the endemic dating woes on the Harvard campus as I observed them as an advisor and, earlier, indulged in them as a student. Those kids graduate and pretty much continue to have the same dating woes — only now with fewer single people around who happen to live in the same building and share meals with them every day. So if they had challenges then, it gets about 1, times worse once they’re tossed from the warm womb of their alma mater. From my observations, the following dating challenges seem to be common to most smart people. In fact, the smarter you are, the more clueless you will be, and the more problems you’re going to have in your dating life. Once upon a day I used to be pretty smart, and believe me, I had a lock on clueless. On the one hand, this makes no sense. Smart people can figure stuff out, right? And this stuff is simple!

Dating while Mensa smart — how to be bright about it

You overlook him at first. He flies under the radar compared to other men. But you reconnect later. He reaches out because of something interesting you wrote. His hobbies are unexpected and wide-ranging: philosophy, fishing, tango. He was a terrible student in high school, yet highly accomplished outside of it.

I Don’t Want To Date An Idiot, But Smart Guys Just Aren’t For Me have any type of discussion with him because I’d constantly be wrong even if I really wasn’t.

When it comes to love, sometimes what we say we want and what we actually wind up wanting can be two totally different things. Take for example the complex topic of what men honestly think about dating an intelligent woman. If you ask a guy how he feels about dating a smart woman, he’ll probably say something along the lines of, “Sure, I don’t care,” or even, “Yes! Intelligence is extremely attractive! But in truth, studies have shown that while men might talk a big game about loving women with gigantic brains in theory, smart women actually make most of them feel insecure.

When faced with the real possibility of dating a woman who is a smarter, higher achieveer, most men quiclkly lose interest in actually pursuing her. But do I think that’s the only thing to blame for this disparity between what men say they want and what they actually want when it comes to their love lives? No way! I believe that at least part of the reason many men won’t actually make a move toward forming relationships with highly intelligent women is that they’re biologically wired to feel they have a responsibility to provide for their partners.

And obviously, because that’s not exactly a feminist ideal, men aren’t exactly chomping at the bit to share their feelings about the subject. But I knew there was one place on the internet where men would feel free to talk openly about what they think about dating smart women: the AskMen subreddit!

Why Do Smart Guys Have A Tough Time Dating?

Beautiful people fall in love every day. They spot each other in a fetid swamp of lumpy mortals and think, I’m hot, you’re hot, it is on. They’ll tell their equally attractive kids heartwarming stories about “love at first sight,” but such pairings are about as compelling as a casting agent’s daily grind.

You have to earn the right to stay with her, and this makes you a better man. She might take better care of herself. With intelligence can often.

My friend’s boyfriend is charming, a gentleman, and great in bed. She’s a hard-news reporter and Web producer who craves intellectual stimulus outside of her job. When a guy can’t keep up with her as she discusses the news, debates the merits of legal reforms, and cracks sarcastic, witty jokes, she notices that she immediately gets turned off.

She’s not the first and hardly the only woman to express a similar sentiment: Some women need a challenge , a man who encourages her to be her fastest, smartest self. When you have stimulating conversation with someone who really makes you think and who can open your eyes to new things and experiences, you never get bored. Or perhaps you simply need someone who can keep up; it’s nice to have someone who gets your jokes and is able to discuss deep, serious things when they come up over the course of a relationship.

Women don’t want a man who is TOO clever or handsome – but men are NOT put off are put off by too much intelligence and extreme good looks (file photo) Relationship expert Matthew Hussey shares his top dating tips.

By any measure, Kate Balestrieri is a catch. There has arguably been no better moment in history to be a single woman: We have more power, autonomy, and choices than ever before. While there is still plenty of room for improvement, the future is looking bright. Marriage rates have hit historic lows , dating apps are apparently making users depressed , and men appear to be in a full-blown masculinity crisis.

Add that to the fact that hookup culture has changed the landscape of our romantic lives, and modern relationships are—in the parlance of our Digital Age—complicated. One issue that Balestrieri has experienced both firsthand and in her professional experience is that some men are coping badly with the fact that women are now their equals in the workplace—and that frustration is manifest on the dating scene. If these are the kinds of tales that make a night alone on the couch look pretty good, they also illustrate a root cause of the dating struggle.

Danielle Forshee , a New Jersey-based psychologist, brought up another pain point: pursuing a dating life necessarily means balancing a personal intimate life with your professional identity. Publicly talking about your dating life is, unfortunately, something that could conceivably have detrimental impact on your dating life. Long-term, committed relationships take work too, of course, she says. But dating multiple people in an effort to find that long-term relationship requires a different level of effort.

Think of it this way: It takes more energy to pedal a bike than to coast.

One day last July, a tall, trim man in his mids boarded a plane in Tampa, flew to Houston and checked into a hotel. There, he was given a copy of the ACT college entrance exam. Guided by a handwriting sample from a California high school student, he took the test in the student’s name. On July 18, a year after that trip to Texas, Mark Edward Riddell is scheduled to be sentenced for his role in the biggest college admissions scandal in U.

Federal prosecutors say Riddell, a Harvard graduate and employee of IMG Academy in Bradenton, was paid to take entrance exams or to correct answers for the children of rich parents eager to get their offspring into top-flight schools. The mastermind of the scheme, William “Rick” Singer, also bribed coaches at several colleges to grease students’ entry. Riddell , Singer and some of the coaches and parents, including “Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman , have pleaded guilty.

Other defendants, including actor Lori Loughlin of Full House , are fighting the charges against them. The year-old Riddell, fired by IMG as its director of test preparation, faces years behind bars. Through his attorney, he said he is “profoundly sorry” for the grief and damage he has caused:.

August 22, pm Updated August 22, pm. Published in the British Journal of Psychology , the paper states that women want men to be smart, but not too smart. Data shows that a man who is more intelligent than 90 percent of the population is most desirable — more so than one who is cleverer than 99 percent. Scientists asked people to rate the desirability of potential partners based on different levels of intelligence, looks, how easygoing they were and kindness.

Those who are in the top percentile of intelligent people also tend to suffer from conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder. The study went on to say that if very high IQ levels are associated with negative biological or social characteristics, then perhaps highly intelligent men are getting a raw deal. Read Next.
